About the Daihatsu Hijet

The Hijet's distinguishing feature is not its mechanical layout but the breadth of bodies Daihatsu and Japanese coachbuilders offered on it: three-way tipping dump beds, the Jumbo extended cab, refrigerated and insulated boxes, scissor lifts, and agricultural specifications with raised ride height and deeper gearing.

Generations

Chassis codes identify generation and, on most makers, drivetrain. Import eligibility depends on build date rather than generation, so a single code can straddle the boundary.

Reading the code

Code suffix is the quickest way to read drivetrain on a Hijet: even hundreds digit for 2WD, the matching 10-higher code for 4WD (S200P → S210P, S201P → S211P).

See chassis codes for the full decoding reference.
